VISITOR'S GUIDE

Situated on the west shore of Staten Island's well protected Great Kills Harbor, RCYC is in a fortunate position to offer excellent and varied waters for boating activities. A family oriented yacht club, in existence since 1923, RCYC offers facilities for power and sailboats, large and small. Great Kills Harbor is one of the finest deep water yacht harbors on the Atlantic Coast. A nearly circular, virtually landlocked basin of 3.75 sq. miles, well protected from the worst of storms, it is a federal anchorage with moorings controlled by the Parks Department.

The sole, well marked channel leads quickly to broad Raritan Bay with wind and water to delight the most avid yachtsman.  From there one may cruise toward Sandy Hook and the open Atlantic Ocean, to eastern Long Island or New Jersey shore points or up the Narrows under the Verrazano and ultimately to Long Island Sound.

With the sheltered harbor and the open bay, there are few better or more convenient yachting waters anywhere in the world. They accommodate anything from a sailing dinghy to an ocean racer, from a sports fisherman to a rowboat.

Easily accessible from Manhattan, Brooklyn or New Jersey via Staten Island's many bridges, RCYC has many off-island members.

On the waterfront we have a long, deep water pier with 40 berths, providing the usual shore side water and electrical service. Smaller one-design racing sailboats and auxiliary dinghies are stored on floats near the docking area for the club tender and race committee boats. The tender is scheduled to run from May through October, serving our members with boats on harbor moorings. There is an electric hoist on the property to handle the smaller boats members keep in upland storage.
